Every week, we highlight 5 interesting events, activities, initiatives, or unique happenings around the Greater Green Bay community (in no particular order). Things to do in Green Bay this week:

1 – Piano Bar Sing-Along, 3rd Year Anniversary, Thursday, Feb 2nd, 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Green Room Lounge DePere

Let’s celebrate thie event that’s had over 1200 songs in it’s making! I’ll be working with Mike Eserkaln, Gary Radke, and Jon Bruinooge of the The Green Room Lounge to come up with a few FUN EXTRAS for this momentous event. I’ll post once we get them locked down. Hey, for those who haven’t experienced this ‘monthly must’ event – time to check it out! Get your friends together for this FREE event and have a blast!

Doors open at 7:30 – music begins at 8! The bar (as always) is available – and Dave will have Melts With You ready to take on all appetites with his cheese-tastic sandwiches right next door. (I’ll be grabbing my pre-show sammich around 7:30)

2 – Dead Horses Concert, Saturday, Feb 4th, 8:00 to 10:00 pm, Backstage at the Meyer, Downtown Green Bay

Raised on Bible Hymns by her preacher father, Dead Horses front woman Sarah Vos’ backstory sound more like that of an old bluesman from the Mississippi Delta than a young folk singer from Wisconsin. But despite their youth, the Milwaukee-based Americana trio has crafted a timeless sound, informed as much by modern folk as it is by the classics. Vos’ gospel, living free and unapologetically, is supported with conviction by Peter Raboin on mandolin and guitar, and Daniel Wolff on double bass.

Following the release of “Space and Time” in 2014, Dead Horses have been touring tirelessly, from shows with folksters Swear & Shake to new grassers The Infamous Stringdusters. A sound that is as commanding as it is heartfelt, Dead Horses reached the ears and interest of producer Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo) who invited the band to record their third album, “ Cartoon Moon,” with him in Nashville. Featuring organ and harmonium, Coomer on drums, and Noam Pikelny (Punch Brothers) on banjo, “Cartoon Moon,” is a masterful achievement from a band that has come into its own.
