Every week, we highlight 5 interesting events, activities, initiatives, or unique happenings around the Greater Green Bay community (in no particular order). Things to do in Green Bay this week:
1 – Fire Over The Fox, Monday, July 4th, 12:00 pm – Downtown Green Bay
I know, I know. Technically this is next week, but I thought I would mention it now as many people have asked if the Fireworks in Green Bay are being held on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. They will indeed be held on Monday, July 4th, and will include a fun all day event in downtown Green Bay. One of the state’s largest fireworks displays, Fire Over the Fox has something for everyone no matter the age. The event features many stages of entertainment including multiple national artists, patriotic ceremonies, veteran salutes, fantastic food and beverage offerings from a multitude of vendors, children’s rides and entertainment, ski shows on the Fox River and culminates with Fireworks, the areas largest and most brilliant fireworks display, set to music! Even if you just attend for the day time activities, it is a great way to enjoy the City Deck and downtown businesses.
2 – Oneida Pow Wow, Friday, July 1st to Sunday, July 3rd, 12:00 pm, Norbertine Hill
A great cultural and visual experience and something I recommend everyone watch at least once. The Pow Wow features dancers and singers from various tribes, styles and ages who come together in a celebration of dance and music. It also offers Native American cuisine from food vendors and Native art and crafts. Come witness the Grand Entry as more than 500 dancers enter the pow wow grounds. 3 – Summerfest, June 29th to July 10th, Summerfest Grounds, Milwaukee
While this event is located in Milwaukee, it is definitely worth mentioning. The largest music festival in the Midwest, Summerfest features over 100 musical acts including a number of national headliners on the main stage (this year includes big names like Paul McCartney, Sting, Selena Gomez, and Blake Shelton) as well as amazing acts throughout the Summerfest grounds (some artists of note…at least for me include Death Cab For Cutie, Alabama Shakes, Ray Lamontagne, Passion Pit, Garbage, and others). Plus, not only is there great music – the food selection mirrors what you would see at the State Fair, so a great opportunity to feed your ear buds and taste buds. I could spend an entire day with the various artists, events, and activities, but will instead simply send you to their list of performers for 2016. Enjoy!
4 – Summer In The Park Concert, Thursday, June 30th, 11:30 am, Whitney Park, Green Bay
If you would like you would like your musical entertainment and venue to be slightly smaller, check out the Summer in the Park Concert at Whitney Park. A fantastic little downtown green space, swing by to listen to some great outdoor music and enjoy lunch outside. The concert even features a food area food trucks and the Brown County Library Book Bus! This week will be featuring The Erin Krebs Quartet. Click here for a full list of dates and performers.
5 – Comedy City, Every Friday and Saturday, 7:30 and 9:30 pm, Green Room Lounge, DePere
It has been a while since I have been on stage with these folks (yes, Brian Danzinger still does improv…and stand-up…sparingly), but if you are ever looking for a good local laugh, I always suggest people check out the fine folks at Comedy City. ComedyCity is a troupe of improvisational comedy performers who have been performing in and around the area since 1987 (yep…1987). Each show features a group of performers that entertain with a series of short scenes, songs & sketches based on audience suggestions. Always a good time and may I add – always family friendly.
