Every week, we highlight 5 interesting events, activities, initiatives, or unique happenings around the Greater Green Bay community (in no particular order). Things to do in Green Bay this week:

1 – Brew At The Zoo – Thursday, June 16th, 6:00 pm

The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park, along with the N.E.W Zoological Society, is hosting a fundraising event for conservation at the NEW Zoo on Thursday evening, June 16th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This is a new event for the Zoo and continues to build on our area’s reputation for quality craft beer.

Local breweries will be featured, along with numerous regional and national craft breweries. There will also be ciders and non-alcoholic drinks for our guests. Every attendee will get a pretzel necklace, a 6 oz. logo’d limited edition Brew at the Zoo tasting glass, and the opportunity to taste the many selections. The Zoo will also have a DJ and picnic style food available for sale. Tickets are only $35, but they are also offering Designated Driver tickets for only $25 (a great option for an event like this).

If you have not been to the Zoo in a while, I strongly recommend getting out there and checking the exciting Adventure Park, which includes a fun ropes course, climbing walls, and a pretty cool zip line.

2 – County of Brown Renaissance Faire – June 18th and 19th

Head back to a time of kings, queens, knight, and knaves with the Brown County Renaissance Faire. This fun weekend features a number of unique medieval themed performances, people in period costumes, swashbucklers, and  more. For the kids, the faire will have sword making, flower wreaths, face painting, bubble wands, and other family friendly activities. Honestly, there is just too much to list, but if you are at all interested in seeing something different in our area, the Renaissance Faire definitely fits the bill. 5 – Greg Hahn and John Egan – Backstage at the Meyer – Thursday, June 16th – 7:00 pm

As many of you know, I am a huge fan of stand-up comedy and am happy to see it growing in Green Bay. Also, while still a new and relatively unknown venue, the Backstage at the Meyer is quickly becoming one of my favorite places for events (we just hosted our Junior Achievement Volunteer Recognition event there and the place was perfect – more on that in a later post). In any case, comedian Greg Hahn is a favorite on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Radio Show and has appeared on Late Night with Conan Obrien, Comedy Central, CBS, ABC, FOX, MTV and CMT. Mr. Hahn has parlayed his absurdly energetic, all out style of physical humor, one liners and crowd work into a performance of immediate pandemonium and continuous laughs.

Opening up for Mr. Hahn is friend and local comedian John Egan, who some of you may know from my posts about the Laughbox at the Green Room Lounge or the Comedy Nights at Hagemeister Park. This guy has some great stand-up and am glad he is getting some regional recognition for his wit, clever joke styles, and creativity. If you are looking for a good laugh, be sure to check to check out this show.
